We recently got back from the DR and it was glorious.
2 grandparents, their 4 children plus spouses, and 12 grandchildren all met up at the Royalton Punta Cana for a week of fun and sun.
And it worked wonderfully.
No mucked up house. No dirty kitchen sink. No sleeping bags or blow up beds.
Each family had their own space. And, my favorite – NO COOKING! (This is a big deal when you have 22 people.)
Like many families in the U.S., ours is spread across the country. We don’t get together as often as we would like and life seems to keep speeding up.
Nieces sprout up at an alarming rate.
You find yourself talking to your nephew about his college apartment. The very same nephew that was the 2 year-old ring bearer at your wedding.
Seriously, when did this happen?
For this trip, we all just got to hang together and relax.
No agendas. No stress.
We did take a catamaran and use the water park. But everything was definitely at a leisurely pace.
This trip was special too. My in-laws celebrated their 50th anniversary. Let me say that again. 50 YEARS!
With all the talk of rising divorce rates in America it’s so refreshing to witness a couple celebrating 50 years of marriage.
I have been planning quite a few multi-generational trips lately and I expect the trend to continue.
Grandparents traveling with their kids and grandkids is a special experience.
I think my father-in-law said it best.
When asked his favorite part of the trip, his response was”Watching all his grandkids playing with their cousins.”
That’s what I call a perfect vacation.
